Fabulous Friday’s Linkup Party- Styling Questions on Bold Colours, Prints and More!

Recap discussion of this post – Francais apres la partie en anglais.

NOTE before I start rambling on: I’ve decided to start a podcast and integrate it here whenever possible (In both French and English). This gives you the opportunity to listen instead of reading, if you prefer. As well, I find this a more inclusive way of communicating with my online community. Please be patient as I’m just a rookie at this! Eventually I will be asking you to come along and participate in interviews- as well as, written and visual interviews. Would you like that? So exciting!!. Thanks for indulging me- I appreciate you so much:)

STYLING QUESTIONS for this Friday:

1)How much is too much print mixing? 2) How bold, bold, bold can ya go? 3)Can an accessory make or break the outfit?

If you’re counting on trends and fashion gurus to guide and dictate what’s right or what’s wrong …chances are you’re gonna end up in a whirlwind of constant shopping. Because let’s face it fashion trends are always on the move; changing constantly. BUT! If you can answer the 3 complex questions above with your gut and creativity- you’re gonna get something right: personal style & a great mood! Two uber important factors to looking fabulous!

How do I answer these 3…Well, let’s look at what I styled up this week…

1) The more print mixing the better- and I’ll only stop if the outfit smothers me and my smile is not the first thing coming at you.

2) Bold has to work with me, not walk in front of me. In other words, the boldness of the colour has to bring out the best in me. We all have colours we naturally gravitate towards- and most often those are the ones that suit us best; we feel lively and refreshed, looking super- Bam- cool!

3) For me an accessory is a statement that I’ll wear to complement an outfit or make it stand out or pop. An accessory can also change the whole look of an outfit that I’ve become bored with, by transforming it. Also, some of my best outfits have come out by me starting with the accessory and building a look around it! Try it!

Lastly, I like to think of style as beauty: it all starts in the eye of the beholder. Own your personal style and wear your taste with confidence.

What are your answers to these ?

  1. But you wear prints like the best! I couldn’t pul of more then 2 prints. Have a great weekend and thanks for hosting.

  2. You are particularly adept at mixing prints, Lucy! I aspire to be as good at it as you one day. Bold is good! And actually, I’m all about the accessories. Although the post I’ve linked today is more of a philosophical rant, I almost trashed the outfit pics. It was an outfit that once upon a time I would have been satisfied with, but no longer. It is totally uninspired.

    1. I was just at your blog this morning and didn’t see that post…Going back now. I find you’re so good at print mixing!! Don’t be down on yourself- love your creativity xx

  3. That checked dress is beautiful on you! I love the mustard yellow with the navy and red too! I really need to get better at print mixing, but I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with colour!

Thanks for the link up 🙂

Hope that you are having a good weekend 🙂 We enjoyed the summer-like weather yesterday at the playground 🙂

    1. Oh thank you Mica! I love your sense of style- and your colour choices! Have a great weekend too- thanks so much xx

  4. Hey, Lucy! Thanks so much for the comment on my blog! I’ve actually been admiring your style on Shelbee’s blog for a while, so it seems we are meant to be soul-sisters when it comes to bold fashion! I am definitely on the “wear it all” bandwagon, and love to have a distinctive accessory (or three!) to zhuzh things up.

That plaid dress is made even more awesome by the addition of the orange accessories. It’s just fab, period. I’m a fan of pattern-mixing and bright colours in general, so nice to meet another blogger who is simpatico.

Have a rockin’ good weekend – I’ve subscribed via email, so you’ll see me a bit more. Thanks very much for the link-party – I’ll be joining you!

    1. Oh Sheila!! Thanks so much! I’ve also subscribed to your blog! I love your style- and we definitely do look like fashion soul-sisters!! I can’t wait to read more:) Are you on Instagram as well? Have a fabulous weekend darling!

      1. Sorry, nope, no IG – I don’t actually own a phone! My entire online presence is the blog: no FB, no LinkedIn, nuthin’. I minimize my online presence (aside from the 10K pics of myself splashed all over the internet, ha ha).

      2. Oh Sheila- that’s actually amazing! You are queen my friend- boss lady! We all need to take up your example. In any case, I’m happy to have connected with you!! Have a great week xx

  5. Hey, I loved hearing your sweet voice! The video and audio are a great addition and it doesn’t feel like you are a rookie at all! Love the tips, especially about the use of bold color “walking with me” not in front of me!! Happy weekend.

    xx Darlene

    1. Oh Darlene you cannot imagine how much I value your input- thanks so much! I hope it succeeds as I want our community to join and for it to benefit us all. xx

  6. So many fabulous pattern mixing outfits!! I don’t usually go too crazy with print mixing but this post definitely makes me want to get out of my comfort zone. I especially love the look with the blue sweatshirt and patterned pants!

  7. Such a great post, Lucy! I have never paid much attention to style rules and I have always just done my own thing for as long as I can remember. Bold print mixes, yes please. Statement making colors, I’ll take those, too! And accessories are totally my jam. You can get so creative with them. I am loving all the features this week, too! Thanks for hosting, my friend. Have a wonderful wekend.

    1. Thanks so much Shelbee- it makes me so happy that my friends come on here and read up on what’s going on in my tiny part of the blogworld:) Have a great week too xx

    1. Thank you beautiful Laura:) And your dress made my heart sing- loved featuring you xx

  8. Hi, Lucy – You are so fun; I always get new inspiration from your bold styling! I loved print mixing before it became acceptable. A woman on the street was once aghast at my “bad taste” when I combined prints a decades ago. I’m glad we can have so much fun with it freely now! Thanks so much for featuring my post on How to Wear Sheer Clothing with Confidence.” XO – Angie, yourtrueselfblog.com

  9. You are an absolute master of pattern mixing! Most of us could never hope to do it as confidently and exuberantly as you. Fully agree on a statement accessory making or breaking an outfit- boots, metallic belts, jewellery, scarves. I buy accessories when I don’t see any clothes I like. Means I can give a lift to lots of outfits.

    1. Oh that is so kind of you Gail! Thank you- I appreciate it:) And I totally agree with you on accessories- I absolutely do the same as you! Have a great week xx

    1. Thanks so much Jill! And styling according to shoes is such a fantastic way of changing your view on pieces to style. Love it! Have a great week xx

  10. The way you mix prints is so clever! I love the plaid dress with the mustard scarf and belt. Thanks so much for featuring me! The dress is still at the dry cleaner’s…I’m keeping everything crossed the stains come out! Thanks for hosting and linking up!
