FABULOUS FRIDAY’S Linkup Party- DIY Time, Looks and Always a Challenge!

Did you think I’d let another week go by without a DIY- I’m trying not to!  I may not post one every single week…but would you believe me if I told you I have a basket filled to the brim just waiting for me to transform what’s in it?  Yes, it’s true.

Oh well, one thing at a time. Today, I’m gonna show you what used to be pants- and how they became a top!  Because they were mid-calf, I decided to give some length by adding some black lace. Then I cut the crotch part and turned that into the neckline.  Sewed up all hems and flipped my garment bottom- up- and there it was:  A brand new top!!

Check out my fun reel.

Next, This week I joined a challenge for ‘trends in your closet’ on Instagram.  This one encourages you to shop what you own and find something that’s trending right now.  There’s a list.  So, I basically ticked off a few boxes with 70’s leather, a vest, and texture!  Here’s one look:

I also got to style up a fantastic Joseph Ribkoff top for 1ere Avenue.  I’m super crazy about this peacock color!!  And- the fit is soo good.  It’s part of their Fall collection, but honestly, this one can be worn all year-round (well at least here in Montreal it can!)

Besides that, still trying to finish up reading Jean-Claude Poitras’ book (Montreal designer 60’s-90’s).  Note: It’s in French. Looking forward to posting a review if I can ever find time to finish it!!

And, if you’re into horoscope fashion, this week I wrote a post on Libra Fashion! You can read that here:

I want to say a big Thank you to Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish for featuring me! These silver booties were the stars of my monthly collab for the Thrifty Six. And also a big Thank you to Michelle of My Bijou Life Online for featuring me wearing this shocking pink jacket (turns out it was quite the hit!)

And now onto my Favourite Fashionista Diva from last week’s Linkup Party is…Andrea from Living on Cloud Nine9 for her exquisite look! How gorgeous is this jumpsuit?!! So feminine and chic- and that colour is so perfect on her! Double whammy for the handbag that pairs that look so stylishly- they were made for each other. Love!!

Fabulous Friday’s Linkup Party- Back to School and Another DIY!

Uhmm, I know I can’t stop September but, back to school already?? I’m still in flip flops (or barefoot) and wanting to hang out. Meanwhile, my two youngest daughters started classes already. They’re taking them online- no choice. But, that in itself required its own prepping and space-making (and time slots to boot!).  We’re all adjusting!

The barefoot look.

As for me, I’m preparing!  I don’t begin teaching until late next week.  And on a very happy and excited note, I’ve begun a fantastic collab with a wonderful company here in Montreal.  You’ll be hearing more about this very soon!!

Besides the barefoot look, I’ve been living in jumpsuits and flip flops.

Here’s another jumpsuit fave (I know it looks similar to the top polka dot one- but this one has little darts instead!) Loving my famous (coz I wer them all the time) camelia flip flops. Summer please don’t go!!

Also always fun for me, I’ve done another DIY!  The cold shoulder dress that was revamped (maybe you already saw the post or IGTV on my Insta feed?).  If not, here’s the pic and a little video clip for your enjoyment😊

I have a bunch of things waiting for me to revamp.  So, I’ve pledged to myself to do at least one a week.  They aren’t all worthy of Insta or blog posting (as a lot of it is mending lol!!)- but I will share what I think you might like and want to learn to do as well.

This week I was also featured on Michelle’s blog: My Bijou Life Online!! Thanks so much Michelle for featuring me- I love the ladies you placed me with!! How we wore white!

Now- Let me take a moment to THANK ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN LINKING UP!!!  Honestly, you don’t know how much it means to me!!  And although I may not always comment, I do read every single linked up post- I promise!!!

My Favourite Linkup Fashion Diva of the Week: Gail of Is This Mutton

I’m a goner for a great polka-dot!! And this Styling is Superb!! How darling does she look!!!! She added a lime green collier- and that exquisite touch seals the deal for me!

My Favourite Real- Life- Talk- Linkup Read of the Week: by Shelbee of Shelbee on The Edge, for her post: Love Your Body, It’s the Only One You’ve Got.

This post was so on point and very real on all levels- It’s a must read for all women. Thanks for writing about this and on your own personal note as well.

My Favourite Informative Linkup Read of the Week was by Lizzie of : Lizzie and Lace, for her post on : Hidden Crown Extensions Review, Update and Comparison

I loved reading this so much because I’m such a girl who’s all about her mane (you could never tell, right?!). I love reading this type of info regarding anything that has to do with hair or enhancing it!

Fashionable DIY Styling- A Must!

Shopping scenario…

Me:  “Wow…do you know in how many ways I could transform this outfit?”

My husband: “Why do you always have to do that? Can’t you just buy the thing and just wear it as is?

Me: “Why would I do that?  It would just look like everybody else’s who’s buying this same outfit.  No.”

Husband: “OK but if you don’t like it the way it is now- why buy it in the first place?

Me:  “Well I love the fabric, the color, the fit and all the possibilities! I just don’t like the length, the collar, the sleeves…oh and maybe I’d change the buttons too.

Husband rolls his eyes:  “Here we go again…

This is typical for me when it comes to shopping or styling!  And even if I don’t transform it- I end up wearing the garment in the least imaginable way it was meant to be worn!

IMG_7258

You might be wondering why don’t I just go out there and buy some fabric and create from scratch?  Well…I really love transforming garments- DIY’s are my thing.  Now, there’s a more important aspect to all this madness.  I strongly believe that we can all do our part in Sustainability- and if that means conserving, refashioning, re-purposing, recreating, thrifting, swapping and DIY- I’m there!

And this is a definite trend my Darlings!  I was especially thrilled with the recent Margiella show for Fall 2020- whose Designer, John Galliano created a new line: Recicla.

Recicla 1Recicla 2

He is upcycling and restoring and basically DIYing older collections and also creating from recycled materials, Vintage and second hand!  He, and I quote, called it “Restorative”  See article and slideshow Here.  Fast fashion is getting the boot.

I get it and I’m so on board.  Creating is everything, and for me art and fashion are one.  So I see styling as the natural consequence of both art and fashion.   ‘Styling it My Way’, here I come!  Don’t be afraid to try it.  You’ll get such a sense of satisfaction knowing that you’ve created something tailor-made and that’s also good for the planet.

Don’t know how to sew?  No problem- most stuff you can get away with just cropping- or even better; just glue it!  I honestly think that Fabri- Tac glue is the invention of the century lol!  Use it for hems, pleats, putting together seams and so much more.

IMG_7249

You’re no expert?  We all think that.  The trick is to just start slowly and watch lots of YouTube videos to get ideas and inspiration.  And, you can always contact me as well- I’ll gladly support you and show you what I can.  This re-fashioning thing is really earning momentum.  In fact, I can say that I’ve converted a good percentage of my clients into letting me re-style, re-fashion or re-purpose their wardrobe.  It feels great- looks new and costs so much less than anything they purchase new.  I’d probably have them transform it anyway!  Oh- and do I mention once again how good it is for the planet to conserve rather than dispose?

In another post I’ll share how thrifting is the other part of this DIY equation.  But for now, let me just show you a few of my own fashion DIY’s.

The time I changed the buttons and added leatherette sleeves to my jacket (plus a belt!):

This too short, too tight dress

 turned into these two tops:

I added ruffles to these pants which were not long enough:

These sleeves were too tight and so uncomfortable- so I added a strip of leftover black knit fabric:

I removed this skirt’s lining and transformed it into 3 different wearable outfits:

I slit the hems of these pants and added a ruffled fabric right off the collar of a jacket I’m gonna re-purpose later;)

And the Kimono I created!  Without sewing- not one stitch!

Check out my two clips below to catch a glimpse of how I did this.  You can see more by going to my Instagram feed @lucybertoldi and look at my DIY highlight.
