What do you do when you run out of styling ideas? Well you’ve heard enough about my ‘shop in your closet’ lectures…but sometimes fresh look ideas just don’t come. Best tip I can give you is to check out what the pros are doing! By that I mean check out the runways- your favourite designers and get inspired! Something will jump at you and chances are you probably have something that sparks your imagination right in…you guessed it…your closet!
My inspiration this week came from a past runway of Dolce and Gabbana:
When I saw all that gorgeous colourful patchwork, I just knew I had to find something similar to style up. And then I remembered having these two amazing vintage 70’s quilted jackets!
And it’s REVERSIBLE! Check out the next pic!
And here’s the other jacket:
They obviously aren’t the exact replica of the Dolce and Gabbana looks…but just enough for me to get that vibe!

It’s no lie that for me, styling and upcycling have everything to do with fashion and the love of clothing. I’ve never seen an outfit that I didn’t think twice about re-styling, re-wearing , re-vamping or…upcycling! Case in point with this adorable blouse (that I’m basically over with as is)– So…Time for a DIY!
Basically, just start off by cutting the sleeves, by rendering the top into a short sleeve top. You’ll be using these sleeves later as a cute detachable accessory for any other top you’d like to zsuzs up!
Then turn in those sleeves and sew them up to make pockets! Basicall the skirt is done…except that I decided to add two faux fur pieces I had on hand. They’re black- so I thought how cute would it be to just add them over the pocket slits! Gives it a cool western look I find. Just another conversation piece lol! And Voila!!
And here are those sleeves!!Once they were cut, all I had to do was give them a quick hem- that’s it! Basically, the elastic was already part of these- and- that’s all you really need to hold the sleeves up. Bam!
Here is the video clip for more details. You can see my whole process! And that includes glimpses of my new (vintage) sewing machine lol!!
I love doing this type of stuff and am actually considering giving workshops on upcycling wardrobes and creating new pieces with what’s left over, at my college when this pandemic thing finally let’s up.
Should I??
Anywayssss, this was SUPER EASY to do!! If you decide to give it a try, let me know!!

Do you wear what trends dictate? Do you wear only what you think is appropriate for your age- occupation- status (fill in the blanks)?
Sometimes all that is actually necessary…but it doesn’t mean that even so, you can’t enjoy it! When you love how you look (no matter the circumstance), you naturally start to feel and behave in a more positive way. And, if that brings you joy, then it becomes an all-around feel good thing.
So this being the ‘Love and Feel-Good Month’, lemme ask you: Does what you wear make you feel good? It should. And I’ll go as far as saying, if it doesn’t, then make it happen! This is essential for both, how you feel and emanate, as well as, how others perceive your energy. (Read Part 1 HERE)
If you’re not a paid model, who’s just showcasing whatever is pinned on you, then there’s no reason for you to not make the right ‘fun and happy’ choices when it comes to your styling. Keep this in mind when shopping!
Too often we dress for the part, regardless of how it makes us feel, without questioning if any of it brings us any joy. That will show in our appearance. Wearing something ‘just because…wtv reason’ doesn’t work in the long run. It’s not conducive to achieving and growing into your own style- something that really feels like you wanna feel is you.
I’ve been working for awhile now on incorporating looks, colors, fabrics, cuts and styles- into my wardrobe; making ‘happy- feel good’, my primary objective. It might sound very basic and logical, but it’s not always as clear cut as that! You have to give it a try and see what I mean.
Pick out one item from your wardrobe that you absolutely love, and ask yourself what it is that makes you smile and wanna wear it? Then, hang onto that feeling and see if you get that with another of your pieces. Keep going with that exercise, and you’ll soon find out there’s a pattern. It could be the color, the style, or maybe the compliments you got…
Because I’m fascinated with this topic – which I will be exploring in more depth- I’ve come up with a fitting Hashtag: #dopaminestyling. I will be adding it to all my blog posts. This also means that I will be making a conscious effort to ONLY style up that which brings me joy!
Let’s START THIS CHALLENGE!!!
To start off what will be an on-going-challenge- I would like it if this week you would pull out pieces of your wardrobe that bring out that dopamine feeling! Then, Please join me in including #dopaminestylingwithin your Instagram post and Tag Me@lucybertoldi. I will then add you to my INsta stories. As well, I’ll showcase you all in a follow up blog post! I can then turn this into a series!
This is a vintage Muff-handbag from the 40’s! it’s truly divine
Here’s a clip about me talking about Dopamine Styling and why I wanna do this!
So here’s to #Dopaminestyling my Lovies! Flaunting red and wild print, mixed with some vintage fur and some cool shades…just because ‘Dressing should feel Good’!
I made those fur cuffs!!
#Confessionoftheday: My easiest go-to-dopamine booster is red- and if you just can’t get away from black or white; mix in some red for some instantaneous bold, beautiful and powerful energy. But more important, it’s especially magnetically cheerful!!

My #Fauxshow challenge is over and it was a huge success- participation was amazing!! I’m actually thinking of doing it again next January. Here are some of my own photos of me taking part:
And then…Here comes February! Started off with by upcycling a jumpsuit into 3 fun, fashionable pieces! Here they are:

“Black and white might be sufficient. But why deprive yourself of colour?” Christian Dior.
I couldn’t agree more! Both can be elegant, bold, chic, sleek and gorgeous. And, as for black…it can be: Super Addictive. That’s right- when you start wearing black, you also start believing it fixes every single little defect by camouflaging it all; as well as giving all sorts of other magical benefits. I get that. And it’s absolutely correct. However, black also has the power to control you. It can lead you to believing that no other colour, print or pattern can fulfill the black-look of perfection.
So, if you’re ok with living your life in a completely black wardrobe, it’s my opinion that you are seriously missing out. Let’s start with the little ‘black lie’ of always looking your best in black (even if you live in Dior). Firstly, I hope you really love makeup, because black against the face gives absolutely no reflection of healthy glow. You’re gonna need makeup to brighten and liven you up. Hair? Your mane should also be impeccable at all times. As for clothes, those too should be impeccable: no wrinkling, no fading allowed. Sharp and crisp- that’s the deal with black…lest you want to dull the magical black look into a boring dark charcoal.
Almost the exact and total opposite is true of white. That might be a good thing when it comes to giving you a glow…but white without a speck of makeup can be sooo boring and just as draining. You must liven it up!!
But let me be completely honest here: I LOVE Black and White. I really do. However…I’m nuts for colour too!
That being said, if black- and /or white- is a total must, but you can see how draining it’s beginning to look on you; cross on over and give colour a try. Start slowly. Maybe choose a black base (or white) garment with a light print of colour. Or add a bright accessory that breaks the monochrome. If you dare to, why not start with a wild- print scarf, vest, or even shoes?! Simple right? Adding a little colour in your life can also boost your mood (it’s actually a proven thing: Dopamine dressing!!)
And then there’s that thing I keep recommending you to do: Get a little inspiration through Instagram, Pinterest, and join some styling challenges (Instagram is full of them!). Let me show you what I’m wearing for this #wearitwednesday…
The challenge called for mixing pink and red…Can you believe it…I hardly have any pink!! And then of course I pulled out my Eva Varro pink skirt which does have both red and pink on its reversible side! And there just as I thought nothing might work, it all came together.
Ladies, wear your colours! You’re gonna feel sooo good- I promise!I’m sticking to Dior’s quote- in my life, it makes perfect sense. What about in yours?

Third Monday of the month and here we are with our Thrifty Six Styling Fun!
You know you’ve scored big when you find a mint-condition- never been worn- Danier leather jumper this adorable! Found it at my local charity store and paid 9$ for it. WHAAAT? Yep- tags and all! The leather is as soft as butter and it most probably goes with any, and every top I own. Like we’ve said before- style is everything, but so is quality! Paired it with another little thrifted gem- I’m crazy about lime green (another animal print!). This top is sheer and also a huge trend for this year. Wondering if I’ll be getting a lot of wear from this little black dress? Let me tell you that I wear this one already too often- and almost all year round! Oh the styling possibilities!
And now let’s see what my gorgeous Thrifty Six Sistas styled up!
“I originally envisioned an edgy outfit for this theme, but given my limited supply of thrifted leather goods, I had to take a very different, old fashioned approach. This green leather purse belonged to my grandma and was a gift for my 16th birthday, including matching shoes and gloves. The heels are much too high for my walking abilities, but the purse was the perfect addition to this gorgeous dress—and I love that it matches the railings! My sparkly bracelet is also thrifted through an antique shop on Etsy.”
“I stopped buying leather after going vegan three years ago and now only buy faux leather. I try to ensure my purchases are sustainable, as faux leather can be bad for the environment. There are some amazing brands that use recycled materials and no animal derivatives at all in their products. This Matt and Nat bag, which I bought on eBay, is certified vegan, and the lining is made out of recycled plastic bottles! My ankle boots are also preloved – I bought them from a charity shop just before Christmas but I don’t think they’d been worn.”
I found this brown leather jacket at Salvation Army a few years ago and it was too snug in the shoulders for a long time. After losing some weight, it now fits and I do love the edginess of it with its broken-in look. My faux leather cow print tote bag is a more recent thrifty find and this is the first time I have styled it. I kept the rest of my outfit simple with skinny jeans, a black turtleneck, and a really old pair of tall brown leather boots.
Only after I bought this antique blue super soft leather blazer I realised that I had to take it to the dry cleaners to wash before I wanted to wear it. And somehow I never wore it after it returned. Only to show this outfit years ago. Thrifted leather and shoes are not my thing, although this is such a gorgeous blazer! I really should get over it!
This was so fun! Hope you’ll join us again on every third Monday of each month for more Thrifted Styling Goodness!
The Thrifters:
Welcome to The Thrifty Six. We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features preloved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling preloved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand!

Happy 2021 and welcome to my first installment of Designer Quotes I Will Fashionably Live by! I’ve decided that for 2021 I would start posting some designer quotes I love and quill some thoughts about these, here on my real estate:)
Because I’m a fashion addict and truly love what I do in this field; from Styling, to Teaching, to DIY’s- I thought this is just a natural development into how we think and feel within the whole fashion concept and- dare I say- world! So join along with me and leave me your comments and thoughts on these musings of mine. Should be fun!
The quotes are all taken from this new little gem of mine (which I just can’t live without- it’s my new fashion partner in crime lol!): Fashion Quotes- Stylish Wit & Catwalk Wisdom
TODAY’S QUOTE: “You weren’t mass-produced, so be unique”, by Manolo Blahnik
This spoke to me immediately. I thought about fast fashion. How there’s not much uniqueness in clothes that are mass produced. And yet, the problem is not only the clothes per se that cause the clone effect…it’s actually the styling! Instead of buying more, why not just get more creative with what we already own?
Manolo is on point when he says we need to be unique. That is the only way to enjoy fashion, creativity and originality.
Be unique my friends! Try looking at clothes in a different way and leave your comfort zone. What’s the worst that can happen? (I’m sure there’s a great quote in my little book for this!).
To go with this post I decided to style up a jacket which can seem pretty difficult to match. The usual and easiest way would be with plain black- but you know I’d never settle with that! The best way to keep the look unique is to pair it up with something that’s just as wild on its own but with a color that would tie the two together.
And that’s just what I did by pairing this flowered jacket with a polkadot dress (ironically, there’s black in both;) Proves that you really can wear a loud jacket on repeat! All you have to do is give it an even louder match. Both looks ae pretty unique- and it feels right- it’s me!
So when in doubt-be unique! Add an accessory; wear it backwards; tuck; mend; add a layer…do what you need to do to change a look and make it interesting and fun again.
#confessionoftheday: Guilty as charged for having fallen for the mass-produced clone effect…nowadays though- it’s a conscious decision to feel like “Me” when I wear anything at all. I try as much as possible to rewear and refashion. I wear what feels good- feels right.

I am so very ready for the weekend. The beginning of the week started out with me needing so much sleep time and rest! I don’t know why I’ve been feeling so drained these days. But there’s nothing like a cute little styling up won’t help cure. Here I am with this colorful little dress and booties bright. Styling up a cute outfit helps improve your mood- and that’s a fact (remember my Dopamine Dressing post?). Much needed this week was color, patterns and more color (even when styling black).
And then Wednesday came along. Don’t you love Wednesdays? So here is a bit of sparkle- which you know I adore. Remember how I told you I refuse to call anything loungewear anymore? Well, here’s my fancy laid back- at home- look; shimmer, sparkle and all! Perfect diversion to reality: Did you know Montreal had an emergency code alert buzzing through all our phones and Tv’s? Yes- you heard that right. An Alert to remind us of the accrued policing and fines for anyone daring to get together for Christmas. And, that my friends, warranted a threat alert…Ok…So this is where we’re at. Moving along! This picker-upper could not have come at a better time!
I wore this for # Wearitwednesday You can check out my Insta here with all the details, and the other fabulous ladies with whom I join every other Wednesday:)
Even though I’m doing my Holiday contract work for Chanel ( Thursday to Saturday), I still get that weekend vibe. I have to admit that going in goggled up and masked isn’t the easiest thing…but I’m getting used to it. But after taking this Before and After Shift pics…wow- I look drained (must be the lack of oxygen behind that mask lollll! What do you think??
Left: Just about to start my shift. Right: Just about to close. From fresh to drained!
So now- I’m obviously ready for the Partyyyy! It’s time for FABULOUS FRIDAY’S LINKUP!!

Nearing the end of a dreary, hectic, panicky year…Are we all, still in a casual laid back styling mood? Really? I honestly don’t think so. It’s true that we can’t attend any grand events or celebrations like we used to, that’s for sure; but this confinement is feeling pretty much like a sort of modern times war. Crazy, scary, somber, dangerous and lonely times…
Fashion moves with the times and is a direct representation of what we’re living. For me, I don’t want that to be slouchy indoor dressing forever. Enough already: I’m banning the word ‘lounge’ from my vocab! Delete.
Here’s a bit of history: After WW2 (ok I’ll be quick- don’t wanna bore you here- but the history of fashion teacher in me just can’t help it!)- as I was saying…After the war and even during the last bit of it- women longed for a change! They didn’t want the drab clothing and poverty looks they were forced into by war.
Imagine that women went as far as drawing up their legs because they couldn’t find or afford decorative lacey stockings! I’m not making this up:
And- right out of that war, along came Dior with his New Look- back to the fancy and to hope and dreaming again!
A dress for peace time!
I say that’s what we’re all feeling inside- a longing for glamour, and over-the top. Don’t you feel like dressing up? Even if it’s gonna be comfortable and casual- please- oh please- make it funky, glamourous and a bit on the spicy!! Are you on board?
Enough with the drab- and please LOSE THE SLIPPERS!!
I was excited to style up this gorgeous 2 piece ensemble by Eva Varro because casual (when you’re going nowhere) can feel and look as cool and glam as can be when you’re wearing something this beautiful. I am loving the black with its touch of animal print that adds all the spice I need. Ladies- you need this outfit. Ultimate pick-me-upper:)
#Confessionoftheday: 2020 is on its way out – and I can’t wait. But in the meantime, I’m transitioning out of the loungewear and back into the stuff I actually want to strut in. After all, the festive season is upon us, let’s spice it up!
