STYLING TIP EXERCISE For a Conscientiously Great Fit

Thought this styling exercise might come in handy.  Just because at a time when we fashion lovers need to do the most we can to keep clothes out of landfills- it’s a good idea to put good styling habits back into perspective.  What’s the purpose?

Well, for starters, when you’re well-styled, feel good and the fit is right- chances are you’ll get more (and longer) use of your outfits- and that’s a step in the right direction.  So here are some of the tips for practice that I usually recommend to get the best styling looks while working with what you’ve got!

Let’s do a Getting Styled with Lucy, Exercise.

Part 1:  VISUAL

  1. At home:  Take a LOVING (and I do mean loving) look at yourself and figure out what your best features are.  (And come-on, you Do know what those are).  That will be the first thing to focus on when styling:  Wear what accentuates those best features.
  2. First, browse through magazines, online runways… what attracts you most?  Is it color? Patterns?  What speaks to you (forget the negatives of “Oh I could never wear that.  Bad vibes)”. This is an exercise so go with it. When you’re ready to go shopping, head for local or sustainable designers, thrift or vintage places, slow fashion movement outlets, Then: look for what inspired you.

Huge Point to work on: Let go of your neutrals if you have already a lot of those; go for colour! (Try it vice versa if you’re a color-go-to gal).

More on color theory in another post…for now, just go with what makes your heart sing and brings you joy (Remember Dopamine dressing?  Read more about that here)

  • Now…just by eying it does it look like it might accentuate what you wish it will?  (Example of this could be:  a mini if you’ve got gorgeous long legs; detail in a low cut top that oughta make your girls look even more attractive; mid-calf pants for those pretty ankles of yours; form fitting top that shows off those beautiful straight cut shoulders; for your gorgeous back…a backless dress with detailed attention back there…I could go on and on..).

Part 2:  TACTILE

  1. Now that you’ve zoomed in on what you find attractive and gives you that feel good feeling…hone in on the quality.  If it’s fast fashion…it won’t be made to last. But if you go with designers that are working on sustainability from fibre and textile selection right down to who’s making your garment; you’re on the right track.  Go for quality vs trends!
  2. Once you’ve got that down-packed, feel the texture (after all it will be touching your body, so it may as well feel delightful!).  This is a huge one, because sometimes we may go ga-ga on a print and know it’s well made, but then the fabric is not quite what we had in mind in terms of comfort and drape.

Part 3:  KINETIC & SENSORY

Before we even get into this- here’s an absolute Must:  Make sure you know a great seamstress, or that you know how to sew yourself.  Without this, I’m afraid your look will never be A+.  Make this a priority.

  1. So now you try on baby!  And with that try on comes the determination of if it fits right.  Is it pulling too snug- you need a bigger size.  With the bigger size there’s no more pulling but at places it looks too big…That’s where you need that seamstress, or your own (even if minor) sewing skills!  It’s all about: Adjusting, adjusting, adjusting!
  2. So now that we’re able to make it fit; move around in it.  Is it comfortable or do you feel trapped in a concoction?  You need to be able to move like you were born in it!
  3. You can move!  Are you feeling terrific in it?  That’s where you need to be at.  The mood it brings is Everything.
  4. If something still feels a bit off- RECHECK how well it’s accentuating your best features!!
  5. Less Is More…

MAJOR TIP here: If something is competing with your best feature; that’s not optimal.  What am I saying?  Example:  Ok- Cleavage looks great, and so do those legs.  PICK which you wanna show:  Legs or cleavage?  Not both.  They will compete and somehow the look gets lost.  Plus, the outfit may turn into one that you hadn’t planned on at all (it could also distract or attract- not sure which is better.  So just don’t).  Trust me on this one.

Part 4:  THE FUTURE

WHAT OTHER PLANS do you have for this new closet arrival?

Will you only wear it once?  You need to seriously think about this.  In my styling process, I know that NO outfit comes out only once.  You need to be able to wear and re-wear it without it looking old or passe.

To Keep in mind before you decide to Ka-ching, Ka-ching…

Are you willing to keep on making it look new?  If so, you gotta have a plan.  We already talked about getting chummy with a seamstress- The next are equally important:

ACCESSORIZING:  This can make a world of difference in changing it up to keep giving it a fresh and modern look.  Think hats, necklaces; long or short or multiple; new makeup- or hair-do; adding jackets; changing shoes can change a look; changing handbags; adding a scarf…Invest your creativity in this area big time.

WASH/CARE Instructions:  Read religiously.

TIME FOR A FACE-LIFT  Once you’re done with all the aforementioned quick fixes, at some point your outfit may need a face-lift.  Think: Upcycling or refashioning it with a good DIY (keep the seamstress buddy on fast-dial- or try your own!).  I can personally vouch for this one as I am most well-known for how I diy just about all of my clothes – and those of my clients too!).

A NEW LIFE- A NEW BEGINNING:And then comes a time when you just need to say good-bye.  Think of either selling it online; giving it to charity or goodwill; doing a clothes swap; or simply passing it on to a good friend or relative.  The time has come.

Ladies, there you have it!  Following these steps will ensure that you’re happy with your purchase, how it looks, how it makes you feel and ultimately how good it can be for the planet!

Here’s an example of how this exercise worked for me:

This is NOT a top! I just could not pull it down past my hips!!

1-Visual: Mini dress -Having decided that my legs are a good feature- I love prints in hues of blue and burgundy- colors bring life to my face

2-Tactile:  I love the feel of silk- great quality- purchased some 10 years ago in Rome (locally made)

3-Sensory Kinetic:  Draped beautifully- felt so fresh on the skin- breathable.  Definitely a great dopamine feeling when wearing it.

4-The Future: Done the accessorizing.  Kept it new and fresh by observing the care instructions.  I’m presently at the FACE-LIFTING STAGE.

So why do I need to give it a face-lift?  Well, firstly I’m not yet ready to give it away for its new life! BUT- it no longer fits (blame the Quarantine!).

DIY it is!  Here’s the result:

Seriously…How cute is this?!

Wanna Kick-up Your Style a Notch? Start Wearing your Wanna- be- Kimonos.

Do you wear what most of us call Kimonos- but are actually robes or embellished scarves, kaftans or leisure wear gowns? There are tons of reasons why you should. These are probably the most versatile garments you’ll ever own. These can be robes- but they can be so much more!

These loose satiny robes are great worn as jackets, cover-ups, dresses (day or evening- and even at the office!), blouses…in fact, the possibilities are countless!

Another wonderful thing about silky lingerie chemises or gowns, is that they can feel so luxurious; light and slippery, the fit is always so pleasant even at the touch. I also love the fact that these wanna-be- kimonos come in so many different motifs and patterns- from pale neutrality to the most deliciously outrageous eccentricity; a choice for all!

There’s also the practicality aspect. Imagine packing the bare essentials for a weekend get-away, or even a vacation. If you include slinky par-dessus in your wardrobe, well let’s just say that cuts the packing to a third. Yes! These babes take no space at all with the plus of giving you a minimum of 3 for 1 different looks. Go from bathing suit cover-up, to jeans and blouse, to a slinky date-night dress- all with just one cover-up.

But if you’re anything like me…one of these beautiful par-dessus will just simply never be enough! I’ll always be swayed by yet another gorgeous design coming my way. I can’t resist and so I’m shamelessly, and forever always on the hunt for the next fix. I love collecting versatile chemises that transform looks and styles.

Watch my interview with the beautiful stylist Karina of Third Eye Babe Here on Youtube:

So, how do you shop for the right look? Check for pattern and fabric quality first and foremost. Meaning; an absolute YES if you find a pattern with colors that make you swoon. That being said- no matter how pretty, never overlook the quality. You don’t want something that easily frays or with constant static cling (that can never be pretty). Look for silk or satin – even blends; just not something that is completely synthetic. Next, do look for vintage pieces- as these are always of better workmanship and quality. Let your heart lead you but be smart about the fabric.

With this in mind, get out there and shop: Thrift stores (lingerie department never disappoints), Vintage shops, Retail, holiday souvenir shops- it’s endless. One thing’s for sure- once you buy that special piece, you’ll be hooked and will want more (you’re welcome). The comfort and look are just too good.

Here are some of the ways I style my par-dessus. If you already own some, please post your looks on Instagram and tag me. I’ll be sure to add you to my stories.

This one I love to wear just about anywhere- any time. Here, I’ve paired it with a long black onesie and mock-neck tee. Always the perfect jacket- and with so many colors and a black base…you can’t go wrong!
Here’s another one I love! This one has a tiny bit of flocked velvet and some sparkles- so I prefer it for a night look. I’m styling with the same onesie as previous pic.
Here it is again, styled with a patterned red pant and belted. See how that just changes it all up?
And this blouse…is actually pj top! Right now it fits all the criteria for Spring trendiness 2020; Neon green, psychedelic motifs, and disco collar. I am crazy about this chemise- it seems that every year it follows some sort of fashion trend- and so it’s always in!
Can we talk about Miu-Miu’s for a minute…In how many incredible ways can you dream up of styling this cutie? Looks like a dress, jumper…fall, summer- you name it; she’s happening!
Speaking of Miu- Miu’s…How about a Kaftan? For me, these all fall in the same styling category. Kaftans, in my opinion, are the epitome of chic, elegance and comfort all in one. Styled this one with a sequins belt and it absolutely goes!
This silver and black slip on pj top is another of my favourites. Imagine this look for the office (it can actually take you right out for 5 a 7 right after.
Here, I’ve paired the same one with black leatherette shorts. How cute is that?

And I know you all wanna know how else to style a cute look for the summer. So here you have it! What’s different about this? Well, I’ve worn it back to front! Yes- you can do that!

If you’re a regular here, the next 2 looks you’ve probably seen before…

The blouse you see under this jumpsuit is actually a par-dessus! How cute is it paired with this reversed polka dot pattern jumpsuit? So as you can see, I love wearing my lounge-wear especially as blouses. They have less of that structured look. It’s more of a laissez-faire look that I prefer.
This black sequin beauty you probably recognize- it’s the no-sew diy I made! I get so many compliments when I wear this one. It was extremely easy to make. (If you want to see how just go to my Instagram feed and check out the DIY highlight).

And there you have it! If you are styling wanna-be-kimonos and posting on Instagram, please join my challenge and tag me @ lucybertoldi. I will add you to my stories.

Shopping Our Closet for 2020 Spring Trends

Spring is with us, whether Covid likes it or not.  It’s time to take out our brighter do’s, dress up and enjoy family, some rest, paced work- and some nice long walks (around the neighborhood…even if only on the balcony /or backyard!).

Also- since most of us are shopping from our closet (I know I am that’s for sure!)- now is the perfect time to search through our stash for all that’s trending for this Spring.  In my Friday Fashionphile post on: Spring 2020 Trends to Look For, You can refer back to it to get some inspiration and then shop the looks straight from your closet!

I think besides the disco collar shirts (well I did find something that came quite close!), there are quite a few things that made me reminisce and made my heart skip a beat- so happy to be rekindling with some of these! Here are some Spring Trends treasures coming to ya straight from my most coveted place; my closet of course!

Did someone say Neon?  Why yes, yes they did!  Spring is yelling out loud with this green (and I am loving all the shrills!).

This neon green worn with contrasting psychedelic blue silk harem pants with semi- bustier makes my heart sing:)

Short suits here I come- nothing will hold me back in these adorable looks. I’ve had this beige ultra suede for decades! Story with this one: My aunt shipped me this from Milan (she had bought on a whim and it was too small for her)- She told me to hang onto it forever as it would never go out of style (35 years ago!)…was she right or what? Vintage Supreme.

Can you see the detail on the hems and collar? Like little cut-outs as embellishment- pure love.
And this one was bought in Athens- in a small local boutique where the lady sews all one-of-a-kind pieces! It’s all boucle cotton-silk with gold buttons. It gives me that spring time Chanel feeling!! I really need a tan…

Polka-dots always make me smile!  Cute jumpsuits are my thing! Here I’ve paired it with a satin kimono to give it that extra edge. (Come back next week for a post on Kimono looks- shriekkk! Can hardly contain myself- sorry back to Spring trends for now!)

I find that mixing polka-dots helps add dimension to the outfit, gives a fuller story.

Psychedelic prints have always been my favourites- I’m naturally drawn to this pattern.  What could be cuter than this little dress (that I converted into a top!) in twice the trendiness:  Psychedelic and the other trendy-for-the-Spring- colour: Red.

Wild thing…you make my heart sing… that’s what I feel like when I wear psychedelic prints coupled with the colour red!

I may not have found the exact disco collar shirt… but this will have to do!  Paired it with a 70’s style vest– oh yes- vests are in too!

Were you lucky enough to be a teenager in the 70’s?? I wore this same type of blouse and vest back then- I must try to find that pic! Brings back so many memories! So happy this is part of Spring 2020 trends!

And here come more…  You all know how much I adore this next look right here-I posted this on Insta a few months back- but just couldn’t resist bringing it out for you one more time.  Patter mixing at its best; but it’s the vest I’m coveting!!

I actually wore this in the fall- but had to slide it in here because of the perfect pattern printing with this vest!! Why not for the spring as well?

And here- a vest that can be worn all year round because it’s cotton with flocked velvet.  I adore it paired with these sandals I got in Rome 5 years ago (and never quite wore them enough).

This vest is one of the most versatile pieces I own- I can actually wear it all year long. I find these adorable sandals with red heals and black and white polka dot straps insane!

Remember the days of Crochet tops, dresses, vests…so much crochet in the 60’s-70’s!  Here I wore it with a pair of Bermuda shorts; and although I may not have mentioned in my last post- these too are super in!! Crochet plus bermudas plus animal print; what more can a vintage-loving girl ask for?

I’m adoring the neon animal print bermuda shorts! Feeling a real theme going on here…

Lastly, look how cute this crochet vest looks with a skirt (animal print of course!).  I find it super cute with the yellow flowy top that also has a notion of crochet on the sleeves.

Boho mama! Here for the look, I flipped up the crochet- vest’s lining so you can see the yellow blouse peep through. Let’s get creative in our own way!

So- these are my looks, ladies.  Which trend do you love most?  It may be one that’s missing here that you want to share…please do!

#Confessionoftheday:  I don’t mean to make light of a difficult situation.  I just feel that we can all use some uplifting these days by bringing you my own kind of rainbow through styling. This is my way of hopefully making you smile while distracting you; even if only for a few moments.  Positive vibes blown your way my lovelies.

Covid19 – Busy, Busy, Busy: 10 Tip Challenge to Stop being a Trophy Woman

Seriously, how are we all doing with this new way of living so far?  It was all quite chaotic at the beginning, adapting, re-focusing, shifting it around, re-inventing, and now hopefully…settling in? I really hope we are all slowing down and taking a breather.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_8296.jpg

Are we, though,  really taking the time to breathe, to refocus, to take time for ourselves, to soak up our faith, to talk and rekindle with our loved ones, or, are we just trying to keep busy, busy, busy?  Haven’t we been there done that- and complained about that?  So why are we trying to re-create that?

Seems to me that although many of us have begun to take a liking to this new pace and newfound ‘getting back to basics’, most of us have not allowed ourselves to do so.

We have been packing in our schedules as though we have to justify something.  I’m guilty of this too.  Fault of a societal mentality that we must always be busy, busy, busy always somewhere to go and something to do.  Well now we can’t go anywhere.

So, what have many of us started doing?  We are getting busy, busy, busy around the house: exercising more, cleaning more, cooking more, planning more, working more (yes- some of us are actually putting more hours into our work from home than we did at the workplace!).

What’s wrong with this picture- especially for us women? NO need to justify ourselves through what we do.  How about we plan some true introspective work in all of this?  But- by all means if this stay at home is giving you more freedom and time to do what you actually love doing (and that could be: exercising, cooking, planning- and job-related as well)- then by all means, knock yourself out! Do it! For yourself.

But if you’re just feeling like you ‘must or else’ do something, well maybe now is the time for letting go and just ‘being’.  Being with your family; being quiet with yourself; reflecting; meditating; being in nature, praying more…Something to just slow you down.  We women are guilty of always wanting to do more.  How stressful is that? And- do we really need to create more stress for ourselves in these times?  Doing does not define us.  We are enough.

Ladies, except for the necessary work-related deadlines, there really are no other deadlines except for online grocery pick-up times- or the ones we create on our own!

Covid19 Stop Being a Trophy Woman Challenge:

  1. Get up and actually sip and smell the coffee; slowly.
  2. Take off the timer when you exercise- just do it for your body- not the schedule or number of minutes or steps.
  3. Pamper yourself the way you want- when you want- you’re the boss of that (not that beauty guru on youtube).
  4. Laugh with your kids- homeschooling is just that – your family relationship means more than turning into the teacher (reality check: you’re not the teacher…Unless you really are the teacher).
  5. Stop stressing about keeping up with posts on Instagram, Youtube, Facebook…no one is going anywhere special or doing anything sensational…no trips allowed.  You’re not missing anything.
  6. On that same note, keep posting if you love it! But if it starts feeling like a job- quit now; the pay is too low (or non-existent)- Plus- no one is that obsessed with what you’re up to.  Do it for the fun!
  7. For work:  Put in your 9- 5 and then shut the computer.
  8. A word on chores: Stop with the deadlines or to do-lists.  You’ve always hated cleaning the chandeliers (that’s why you only do it twice a year) …why does it absolutely have to be done this Tuesday?
  9. Take time to give Thanks. On very few selected times in history have people been given the opportunity to be on ‘hold’- in my parts of the world this type of taking a break only happens on snow days (which usually only lasts one day).
  10. The only mandatory rules that mean anything are:  Wash your hands, disinfect all that comes in from the outside, keep social distance, stay home.

We can do this.  We are enough.  No more unnecessary stress.  No one is handing out trophies. Have Faith.  Stay Safe!

#Confessionoftheday: For me blogging and taking the time to write to my heart’s content is actually a way of relaxing! Finally getting to write whenever I want.

I love reading other great blog posts- so I thought to include some really good ones for you to check out! They have linkup parties where you can link your own posts. Go check them out and show some love. Have a good one!

THE FRIDAY FASHIONPHILE: What Would Carrie Bradshaw Wear During Quarantine?

Fact:  Carrie Bradshaw is my fashion muse.  I’m completely obsessed with her styling.  Where do you think my love for mixing patterns, styles and colors comes from?  And that whole thing with her being a writer…another thing we both have in common.

So, as I bring you fashion inspiration here and on my Insta feed, it got me pondering about what Carrie might be wearing if she were in quarantine.  Hmm, based on what she wore, it would probably be original, creative, laissez-faire – but most of all, fun!

Let’s look at some of her looks from Sex in the City and see how she can inspire us during this confinement time.

Let’s start by rummaging in our own closets. Ahh we should all look at our wardrobes in such an endearing way- just look at her whole demeanour!

And trying on some of your clothes and just dress up for the fun of it!

And maybe doing some unboxing of things you haven’t had a chance to wear yet!

Choosing the right fresh looks that are both invigorating and yet still laid back- like this cutesy shirt outfit!

Putting your feet up to relax while still upholding a bit a glam…maybe sipping something cool…confinement at its best!

Or maybe a cutesy Tee with motif pants just for hanging out and chit chatting on the phone, catching up with people you miss seeing.

But a girl’s gotta work- and that doesn’t mean staying in your pj’s just because you’re working from home…unless that’s your statement for the day. Check out all these cute looks Carrie wears while hammering away at her laptop…

How chic is this?
And this one!
Slip dress!
Love the KImono look!
Every working girl needs a Rolling Stones Tee.
Something about pearls and the feeling they give you…ahhh!
Adorable little dress…
Dresses can be darling as well as super comfy (just look at how she’s sitting!)
And…we still have to eat…so for a quick trip to the grocery store- look how cute! And obviously if it really were during this quarantine- betcha Carrie would have the ultimate fashionable mask!
Ok…This has got to be my very favourite grocery shopping look!
And we can’t forget puppy duty! Isn’t this outfit da bomb?!
Just try not to get closer than 2 meters from others!
And after all that…just call it a day! Adorable silk top and she’s got her blanky to snuggle…luxury!
And it starts all over again in the morning…Back to the closet!

Hope you’ve enjoyed these ‘what would Carrie wear during confinement’ moments! Keeps me dreaming of fun styling whatever the situation. And now…Back to Work!!!!

How are you styling your looks during this quarantine? Please let me know in your comments.

JEANS: A Love-Hate Relationship

Jeans and I have a love-hate relationship.  Here’s my theory (and many of you are not going to like it):

Not everyone looks good in jeans; but everyone can look good in jeans.  This is especially true when it comes to trends.  As well, I don’t believe that all jeans are comfortable.  Denim, in general is not a draping dream… It’s stiff, and if it weren’t for spandex that has now helped reinvent it- it’s just a rigid, resistant fabric.

So, how do you make jeans work?  How can you look good and comfortable at the same time?

You have to find the right fit for you.  And that too is not as simple as it sounds.  Jeans have to work for you- not the other way around.  Here are some of the tricks I’ve given clients throughout the years (and that this Montreal Diva uses for herself as well!).

Loose, or baggy jeans are not just for gardening. These can be so comfy without ditching style. Belt them up and wear some heels- it will change the look completely.

As well, I get that some slouchy jeans can make your back side look less than appealing…so why not top them with a cardi, loose kimono, or long- oversized blouse? This is also great for camouflaging, ladies;)

Another way is to steal the attention away from the jeans, so that you still feel stylish and comfy. Let your top be the star and focus point! Try this for yourself- you’ll thank me later. Notice how my top (and booties) in this next pic, stand out. Another trick is hem design (draws the eye from the boots right to the hem)!

A good sleeve is another big actor in this scene. Sleeves can be theatrical (stealing the show gain!)…starting to see the pattern here? Accentuating with a tight tank or vest also draws the eye to your seemingly smaller waist- and keeps the eyes on the top altogether.

Along those same lines a long top over a pair of skinny or straight jeans can give the appearance of you being a lot slimmer than you actually are (even – even if they’re low waisted). Pair that with some cute booties and let’s just say that those jeans .you only partially see them) look so dang cute!

Speaking of skinny jeans…Pair them with a jacket and immediately you’ve gotten yourself a more complete look! Now the eye goes from top to bottom- it’s cohesive- looks stylish and is super comfy. If you can find a long jean jacket like this one below even better! This length does not cut you off at the waist. Reaching your hips, it takes away any emphasis away from the tummy or behind (or hips- read below).

I can’t rave enough about bell bottoms… and- high waist. Yeah, you read that right. Bell bottoms look great for both curvy and slim shapes. If you’re heavier at the hips, I recommend that you wear (as shown above) a longer jacket if you want to sport your skinnies. But let me just say that if you want a balanced look: a tighter fit from hip to knee and then a flair, balances you out and is way more flattering in every way. Plus, they look absolutely fabulous with platforms (the higher the better!). In this style, you can easily cinch your waist (thick or thin) with a cute belt- and the look will be irresistible; something that can’t be pulled off too well with a low waist pair of jeans. (Key word: muffin).

While I’m on the subject of bell bottoms- or any jean for that matter- a white blouse should be a staple in your wardrobe. It freshens up the look and always seems to make the blue in your jeans pop. I love this contrast so much. As well, white is also the eye-catcher in a jean situation- and as we’ve seen, if you want to wear what you want when it comes to jeans…well then, you always need a show stopper match to help you achieve that!

And then there’s the mono-chromatic look! This is a natural body slimmer. As much as I love me a good print, nothing beats mono-chromatic for making me look put together when I’m in jeans. This look automatically elongates and camouflages all those areas we want kept to ourselves;) Can you imagine an all black jean look? Right?

But if you insist on having your jeans steal the show- then make sure you mean it! You can certainly have fabulous jeans that are the center of your look’s attention- but make sure they are so fabulous that every other part of you that’s not playing, is just an after thought. These jeans are what I’m talking about!

So there you have it. If you don’t want to have a love-hate relationship with your jeans, follow my tips and own your style! Remember: You wear the jeans, don’t let the jeans wear you!

#Confessionoftheday: This love relationship is cyclical; it comes and goes. Like a roller-coaster ride. I guess I’m in it for the excitement. Way to go Levis!

The Friday Fashionphile #2 Spring 2020 Trends to Look For

If you’re a vintage lover…this is your season!

The runways have been swarming with reminiscent iconic looks some of us have worn and adored.  I’m talking: Vests, crochet, polka dots, psychedelic prints, disco collars (all kinds of collars to be exact!), short suits… What more can a vintage lover ask for?

And as for colours; I’ll just talk about my faves: neons and red of course!

Fashion always repeats itself- or as we say- everything comes back in fashion!  But when the come-back is this good, you wanna wear all that goodness that inspires.  Here are some of the looks that this Montreal styling diva is breathless about:

CROCHET!

I love this so much-It brings back the 60’s and 70’s vibe! https://busbeestyle.com/spring-fashion-trends-2020/

VESTS

Vests are so versatile and perfect for layering. Sets the mood for chic or casual- or edgy! https://busbeestyle.com/spring-fashion-trends-2020/

POLKA DOTS

These are all the rage. Personally, I can’t get enough of this- totally my vibe! Remember this ladies?? See: https://www.ellecanada.com/fashion/trends/your-guide-to-the-top-trends-for-spring-summer-2020

DISCO COLLARS

MORE COLLARS!

Check out these Peter Pan collars! Ok, how adorable are these? See: http://www.stylelistaconfessions.com/2019/09/stylish-fashion-week-spring-2020-trends.html

SHORT SUITS

Who doesn’t love a fabulous suit- and especially with the freedom of shorts! These are seen with Bermudas especially- but all lengths are in as well; even the short shorts! See: https://40plusstyle.com/spring-2020-fashion-trends/

COLOURS?

I’ll just focus on two of my very favourite: Neon… How perfect is this lime green?? See: https://www.styleoholic.com/neon-outfits-for-spring-2020/

And Red! Yes, Red! I am crazy about this colour for both fall and winter, but adding it for Spring and Summer…well, I am in heaven! See: https://glowsly.com/spring-summer-color-trends/

These are some of the trends that I’m most excited about for Spring 2020. And although we know that trends come and go, that doesn’t mean they actually disappear within a season. Many of these trends, in fact, last well into one season to the next (just look at neons and polka dots). So we are good for awhile.

As well, I’d say that we can probably dig into our own closets and find that once again, we can find these same trends already hanging there waiting for us to style them up again.

#Confessionoftheday: I’m ready to ravage my closet, determined to find some of these looks right in there!

Is Confinement Wear the New Lounge Wear?

We are all at home now (or at least we should be!).  And as petty of a question as this may be, this stylist wants to know…What are we all wearing?

The first few days at home, I get it- we wanted to be comfortable and so, for many of us it was an-all day pajama day…but now that more than a week’s gone by- enough!

I wrote an article not too long ago about the benefits of dressing for our mood: Dopamine dressing (you can read it here).  There is so much truth about how clothing can change your whole mood, demeanor and attitude.

Can we all agree that we need to pep ourselves up a bit and try to stay positive during these difficult times?  So, let’s start by, at the very least, getting dressed when at home!

And, if you insist on comfort, this may be the time to take out those gorgeous kimonos you’ve been wanting to wear (and what exactly were you saving them for anyway??).

Besides kimonos though, ladies, please wear your clothes!  Just because we are staying home does not mean we have to let go of it all- you don’t want to drag yourself into a depression (and yes- therapists will tell patients exactly that:  get up, shower and get dressed- every day!).  It’s important!  It makes you feel like you are ready for your day.

You are not getting dressed to impress- you’re doing it for yourself!  Go ahead and dress up; whether it’s in casual wear, evening wear- or whatever wear- just do it:  Get up and get dressed!

There is absolutely no specific reason for this type of dressing- cause we’re not going anywhere! This, my friends can make it all the more fun!  Wear what you want- now is the time to enjoy even the craziest of outfits.  After all, nobody’s visiting!  Get up, get dressed and put on your Confinement wear!

Here are some ideas for what some Montreal divas are wearing to dress up while in confinement (and even when not!). One thing that all these looks have in common (besides being so darn cute!), is: Comfort.

Jumpsuits are so versatile- they’re always a good idea! (And always easier to wiggle out of when you’re home rather than out!).
I love me a good loose turtleneck- perfect if dressed up with flocked-motif leggings in the same tones.
If you’re now working from home-but still need to make a presence online , this casual work look is perfect. (I wore this to teach my online class).
Pleather at home? Why not! Also- add a loose chain belt for a little pizzazz. (Hey, it’s your house- wear what you like!)
Have fun in your closet – try a look- take a selfie! Crew necks are my faves; like these worn with leggings or jeans.
Can you tell I have this thing for motif leggings? And for a match made in heaven- I love to add me a sparkly top.
Flair baggy pants with another loose knit look. Comfy but so pretty! (BTW, the cream collar was crocheted by yours truly- just to add that extra touch).

Let’s stay safe for the health of all during this difficult time, while we connect with all things that are truly meaningful to us. And, as we try to distract ourselves from the worry and anxiety- why not indulge in a little dress-up time? There’s no harm in bringing some dopamine back into our lives…Let’s keep this quarantine fashionable shall we?

Don’t lose hope! Dress up and get yourself some good pet therapy- works all the time!

#Confessionoftheday: secretly dreaming of a virtual runway where we all dress for our own runway…Hey- confinement will do that to you!
