Style Fragrance

What is your style fragrance? Careful…it’s not the same as your signature fragrance ! What’s the difference? A signature fragrance is basically the scent that identifies you. When certain people recognize a particular fragrance (even if you aren’t around), it reminds them of you. Just think of your youth and how your mom, dad or loved one, smelled; you’d recognize the fragrance immediately if it were presented to you even now. It’s particular and unique to the person.  It’s unchangeable and recognizable- part of the person’s identity, you could say.

But what about a style fragrance? This one is way more versatile, and its options are limitless. There are endless varieties of fragrances to choose from when you adapt the fragrance to your style! Say for instance that you are going away on vacation; rather than bringing along your signature fragrance, you could opt for something different. You could choose a fragrance that is light and fresh- maybe citrusy. You’d want a fragrance that goes with your beach or cruise style- and this would go hand in hand with your vacation style wardrobe as well. A style fragrance can change depending on the situations, occasions and events in your life. It can even be seasonal.

Here are some examples of situations that can determine the style fragrance choice:

  • Getting married and you need a gorgeous white floral fragrance (Gabrielle Essence)
  • Weekend skiing up at the chalet; you’ll need something fresh, light and enveloping (Coco Mademoiselle: L’Eau Privee)
  • Hot date night requires a sexy, warm and spicy amber floral (Coco Mademoiselle Intense)
  • Out brunching/shopping with the girls and you need something fun, stylish and exciting (Coco Mademoiselle)
  • For a romantic evening with your love, drench yourself in blissful white musk notes (Chance Eau Tendre).
  • For the Holiday season and all of its glitziness, you’re going to absolutely need, without a doubt, a beautifully chic, elegant and spectacular fragrance (Chanel No.5 )

As long as there are places to go and people to see- or just for yourself; there will not only be a clothing style or code, but also a fragrance to go with it. So rather than just splashing on your signature fragrance (which you wear most of the time anyway!) get your style fragrance on and change it up a bit!

You don’t have to go broke when choosing a style fragrance. Because these are fragrances that you only wear occasionally, shop the smaller or purse size formats. This will also ensure the product stays fresher as you are bound to finish it up sooner. (Note: for your signature fragrance, it’s actually cheaper to stock up on the largest size since you wear this one more often. Remember, the larger the format, the more you save).

Not ready to put aside your signature fragrance- even if only momentarily? Then try changing it up with a style fragrance in a gel, body lotion or cream format for starters.

What’s important is to start bringing variety on board by choosing fragrances for the special moments in your life. Not only will this keep you feeling current and in-line with your lifestyle, having a variety of fragrances to reflect one’s evolving style is also a great way to ensure that you never get bored of your signature style!

  1. Poison is my style fragrance when I attend science conferences; Red Door for dancing; Tiv for work; RiRi for going out. Signature? In my early 20s, it was Miss Dior. In my late 20s, Paloma Picasso. When I got married I switched to Chloe Narcisse. After immigrating to Alaska, Elizabeth Taylor became my signature because I can buy it in Fairbanks.

    1. Oh Nicole I love this! You sure do know how to change it up according to mood, event and style. This is fabulous and the fragrances you use are divine indeed!

  2. While I barely wear fragrance anymore, I loved it when I was younger. I wore Charlie, Love’s Babysoft, and I adored any musky scents. My ex used to buy me Chanel No 5 and so I can’t wear that anymore. My pre-ex scent was Salvador Dali in a lip bottle with a nose stopper (I still have it – in the original box! c. 1986). I loved Tribu by Benetton (and still have my bottle in its box), and Shi (because it’s my name, duh) by Alfred Sung. The only fragrance I wear – if at all – is Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene. I bought it for my dad back in 1988ish and he loved it, so it’s forever the smell I associate with him.

I do have shampoo that smells like vanilla, and conditioner that is lemon-mint (I cup my hands and inhale it every morning!).

Lovely to see you again, Lucy! <3

    1. Hi Sheila! I’ve been missing writing and chatting you! I’ve been ridiculously busy with my teaching and so many projects that go with that.
I love all the choices in fragrance- so very original!! I get not wanting to wear a fragrance that was given by your ex! But it does show how eclectic your choices are- just like your amazing styling. xx
